HBO’s original hit series, Game of Thrones, is set to return July 16, 2017, but “winter is coming”. To prepare for the upcoming seventh season, I’ve paired the perfect drinks with your favorite house. –Christina Jackson
There’s a new king of the North. Although House Stark has experienced its share of twists and turns, House Stark will always stay grounded and loyal. Known for their warning, “Winter is Coming.” Support the North with an Alaskan Brewing Co. 2015 Smoked Porter. This can be enjoyed right away, but also after years in the cellar like wine. With the Free Folk, Knights of the Vale, and the rest of the northerners standing behind Jon Snow, you’ll want to keep this porter close as we watch the fate of the North unravel.
House Lannister is the principle house of the westerlands. A new King sits on the Iron Throne, or should I say Queen. As Queen Cersei has demonstrated, A Lannister will do anything needed in order to stay on top. A strong and expensive pairing only seems fitting for a family known to always pay their debts. Boscarelli’s 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Vino Nobile, [Tuscany’s once most revered wine] is making a return, so it only seems fitting as Cersei Lannister is running the show at King’s Landing.
Daenerys Stormborn, first of her name, breaker of chains, mother of dragons, the list goes on. Daenerys has a dream to be Queen in this game of thrones, and has proven to others as to why she should wear the crown. Thousands of freed slaves stand behind her, and even a Lannister. Others such as the Greyjoys are taking a chance to help her rise to the top. Brovo Amaro 14 is a sweet and spicy mix just as Daenerys. This spirit is light on the palate with rich cocoa, cinnamon, and other herbs.
Men of the Nights Watch
If you’re on the fence, or rather, on the wall about who to root for, I recommend Mulled wine. This wine is a perfect pairing for the Men of the Night’s Watch. They are men who belong to no house but are sworn to defend the wall. Mulled wine is usually made with a red wine along with various spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom served hot or warm.
